COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

The departments such as Social Work, Women’s Studies, Law, Home Science,Business Management and Education are actively involved in community outreach programmes.

Other departments like Sericulture, Applied Microbiology and Communication and Journalism also undertake extension activities.

Outreach programmes include conducting community surveys, forming self help groups, associations, training government and non-government functionaries, organizing programmes on nutrition and health, legal aid, family counseling, entrepreneurial counseling etc.

Many of the departments contribute their technical expertise in developing resource material for the non-government organizations engaged in developmental work.

Most of the faculty members from various extension departments are also involved in consultancy work. Besides, there are certain centres such as family counseling centre, centre for women’s studies, and legal aid center, which organize exclusive community outreach programmes.

Adult Continuing Education, Extension and Field Outreach

The Department is established with the financial support of U.G.C. under X plan. Department started with 3 dimensional objectives of providing 1) Education 2) Health and 3) Self support in four domains namely Adult Education, Continuing Education Extension and Field Outreach services to empower women who are below poverty line.

1) Education :
A) Adult Education : Adult Literacy Classes for illiterate adults.
B) Continuing Education : Skill development programs and job oriented courses such as still photography, Videography, Video Editing, Audio Editing, Internet and Wed Designing, Computer Hard Ware, D.T.P. Communicative English, Free Hand Drawing, DCA.,
C) Extension Education : Imparting Training to Neo-literates and Semi-literates to go higher classes through Open School System.

2) Health :
* Free services for the betterment of the health to needy women who are also below poverty line, in adopted centers and provieded.
* Conducting Free Health camps
* Arranging aid in co-ordination with Govt. hospitals and distribution of medicines to the needy people on free of cost.

3) Self Support :
Imparting training to Adult illiterate women for getting income for them in preparation of Health & Nutrition food products by developing networking with other departments and extending marketing support.

Field Outreach :

* Awareness programmes like family counseling, legal literacy, women rights & Protection, Importance of Nutritious food to pregnant women, importance of women education in co-ordination with other departments.

* Arranging for medical aid from Government Hospitals & N.G.O.’s.
